Game Report

Game 3
Saturday July 29, 2017.

Game 3 now in the books and what a game it was!!! Stu Peppard lived up to its billing and provided a sweat box for the players and fans but also some great lacrosse action as well!

Well it was hot in the building and on this day the Raiders were hot coming out of the gate to start this game! Cam Wengreniuk broke the ice quickly on new Mounties starter Doug Gardner when at 19:31 the first shot he faced was behind in the twine. The Mounties responded but then Dylan Kinnear continued his scoring prowess in the playoffs and for the third game in a row had a goal at the 13:12 mark to put the Raiders back up. The Mounties once again tied the game but then the Raiders went on a little run to end the period with 3 goals in a row. Dylan Kinnear his second at 7:59 then Captain Getz comes out of the box to get a great feed from Harrison Matsuoka at 5:25. The period was capped off by Kade McCormick at 3:19 and it was a 5-2 Raiders lead after one. The Raiders defense and goaltending again was strong to start this game limiting the Mounties to 8 shots in the period while the offense ripped 17 scoring the 5 against Gardner, tough start off the bench.

The second period which seems to be the Achilles heel for the Raiders in this series again started with the Mounties tightening the score making it 5-4 before a highlight reel play and effort from Matsuoka on a short handed situation really brought the fans out of their seats when at just before the half way mark 10:50 he scored to make it 6-4. This really ignited the Raiders bench and their fans and the boys came right back at 9:05 when Brett McIntyre scored to make it 7-4. The teams continued to exchange goals as Wengreniuk with his second at 7:00 mark and McIntyre again with 0:50 finished the scoring in the second and it was 9-6 Raiders going to the second intermission.

The third period came with the Raiders looking to lock things down and take a 3-0 series lead. Mounties showed they would not go away easy and scored first in the period but right after that Jesse Chong took the ball off the draw and buried it at 15:54 to give the boys a 10-7 lead. The Raiders looked like there were not going to let this one go as at 10:43 Wengreniuk completes the hatty making it 11-7. Travis Getz with his second at 6:56 made it 12-7 and the defense with Kevin Orleman again making many great saves looked to finish off the Mounties in game 3 as they pulled their goalie to have an extra attacker on many occasions looking for the comeback. But the Raiders were not going to be denied the 3-0 series lead. Brett Craig made up for an earlier post on the empty net when he scored from just outside the Raiders crease with 0:31 left in the game to make it a 13-8 Raiders victory! The Raiders showed on this night that not only Stu Peppard but they were hot.

The Absorb LMS Player of the Game for this victory with a strong performance on the back end and many lose ball combined with a big goal was Jesse Chong. The Bigeye Productions’ Jordan McKinnon Hardest Working Raider again showing to be a solid pick up for the Raiders winning the majority of the draws on the night and playing another great game on the back end was Liam Patten.

Be sure to all come out and cheer on the Raiders Monday July 31 at 7pm at Stu Peppard as game 4 is sure to be another exciting and hot affair. GO RAIDERS GO!!!
