July 2

After celebrating Canada Day the boys were back on the floor Sunday playing the final game of the year against SWAT. They were looking to ensure there was no let down after a strong performance on Friday night.

Christian Norrie started off the scoring just 1:18 into the period and the Raiders, as per Coach McBride…’may have played the best first period he has seen while coaching the Raiders’. The boys came away after the first period with a 5-0 lead which was led by the transition from the defensive end on this day. Norrie, Brett Craig with 2, Danny Wright all rushed the floor to get the Raiders starting with Carter Brand finishing off the scoring for the period. A solid start from Kevin Orleman in net and it was a solid start to the game.

The second period saw the Raiders add another 9 goals while keeping SWAT to just 4 as the period ended with the Raiders up 14-4. Zach Mantei, Brett McIntyre, Cam Wengreniuk and Dylan Kinnear all had 2 goals in the period while Carter Brand added a single as the offensive moved the ball around and showed that they have some scoring touch.

The Raiders finished up the third period of this night with 4 more goals before giving up a couple late ones for a final score of 18-6. Four different Raiders scored in the third with Kinnear, Jett Leonard-Bedier, McIntyre and Harrison Matsuoka finishing off the scoring for the game. A strong defensive performance on the night with some great saves from Orleman and the heating up of the offense gave the team a 17-1 record and locked up first place for the season and a bye in the first round of playoffs.
The AbsorbLMS Player of the Game on this night was Cam Wengreniuk while Caehlan Bullen earned Bigeye Productions’ the Jordan McKinnon Hardest Working Raider.

This week sees the Raiders finishing off the season series with the Mounties on Wednesday night at Stu Peppard. Then as the Stampede gets started the Raiders finish off the regular season with a home date against the Edmonton Blues which will be a night dedicated to our Leader Dave Fehr. Be sure to come out to that game on Friday night and then the Stampede Breakfast on Saturday July 8 at Max Bell and celebrate Dave’s life!
