The Raiders started off the Canada 150th Day weekend with the last trip to Edmonton for this year and a battle with the Edmonton Blues. This was also the first game for the new additions to the team in Kevin Orleman between the pipes and Liam Patten playing D and taking draws.

The game started with the Raiders setting the pace in the first period coming away with a 5-1 lead and not giving up the goal till the final 33 seconds. Our captain Travis Getz got the boys going on this night just 2:31 into the game and the Raiders never looked back from there. Getz’s 2 goals in the period were bookends for the 2 goals from Dylan Kinnear and a transition goal from Liam Farrell. Orleman showed why the Raiders made the move to acquire this Ontarian with some solid saves and the ability to move the ball.

The second period saw the boys give up another goal to Blues early but then shut things down completely and let the offense take over. This goal would be the last one the Raiders gave up on this night while adding 8 goals in the second period taking a 13-2 lead into the third period. In this period Dylan Kinnear started and finished the scoring while Wengreniuk, Brand, Matsuoka, Getz, Norrie and McIntyre all tickled the twine. Of these goals the penalty kill showed it is continuing to be strong with 3 shorthanded goals…well done boys!!!

The third period saw the boys continue to dominate in the offensive end while continuing to shut things down in the defensive end outscoring the Blues 10-0 in the period to finish off the 23-2 win on the night. Three players had a couple goals in the period (McIntyre, Pupp and Leonard-Bedier) with four others adding singles (Bullen, Fluet, Kinnear and Brand). Caehlan Bullen and Matthew Fluet scored their first Junior A goals for the Raiders.

Newcomers showed well in their debut with Kevin Orleman being named the AbsorbLMS Player of the Game and Liam Patten, Bigeye Productions’ the Jordan McKinnon Hardest Working Raider. Great way to start fellas! Keep up the good work!
