WOW what an atmosphere, what a game, what a night!!!! The Raiders annual Minor Lacrosse Night was the best yet!! With 700 fans in attendance and us playing game two of the season series against the crosstown Mounties you couldn’t have asked for a better setting for this game! Max Bell was rocking!!!
The crowd was into the game right from the start and the teams were fired up and ready to go. It started on this night with the Raiders drawing first blood on a goal by Brett McIntyre 4:25 into the game on a quick transition with Jack Moroney passing to Harrison Matsuoka after a great defensive stand and McIntyre with his first of 3 on the night finishing it off. Must have got our boys all jacked up as just 42 seconds later Kade McCormick would tally his first to put the Raiders up 2-0 and the crowd was rocking. But true to a Raiders Mounties tilt the Mounties struck right back just 26 seconds later to bring it to a 2-1 score. Things continued to go back and forth throughout the first and the Raiders took a 4-3 lead to the room at the end of one.
But the second was a totally different story as the Raiders were firing on all cylinders with what may have been there best period of lacrosse in the season so far. Strong defense and some great saves by Joey Janvier and Brendan Wilhelm, who came in to replace Joey after he sustained an injury, propelled the Raiders and the offense did its job with the boys outscoring the Mounties 6-1 in the period. The offense was spread out with 6 different players scoring in the period including Dylan Kinnear who was making his season debut after a super season at Towson University and an appearance in the Final Four! Was great to have him back in the lineup and he provided some offense and strength to the left side which seemed to open up a lot of the offense.
The third period saw the teams settle in and it was just before the mid-point of that period that a goal would be scored. The Mounties found the back of the net but it was soon answered by the Raiders and McIntyre with his third. The Mounties got a couple late ones but the final was 11-7 for the Raiders and put our record to 11-0 on the season.
Dylan Kinnear return saw him lead the offensive charge on this night with 2G and 3A while McIntyre 3G 1A and McCormick continued their strong contributions to the offense adding 4 points each. The Raiders also showed their strong transition game set up by great work on the back end with 6 players out the back door tallying points on the night lead by Harrison Matsuoka 3A and Jack Moroney with 1G 1A. A strong night all around for the Raiders playing in front of a big and loud crowd.
Dylan Kinnear was the Player of the Game and Tyler Sceviour your Hardest Worker on this night.
The intermissions were filled with Minor Players showing off their talent and there was plenty going on in the building the whole night. We would like to thank the Calgary Roughnecks for their support on this night and a special thank you to Courtney Hamm and all her volunteers who made this the best Minor Lacrosse night yet! Can’t wait to see next years.
The Raiders face the Mounties for the last time at Max Bell this season on Wednesday Night at 8pm and then travel to Edmonton Friday to face the Blues. See you all at the Bell on Wednesday.
