June 2-4 Saskatoon Well it was the annual trip to Saskatoon for a busy weekend, which this year meant 3 games in 3 days for the boys in Toontown. It started off early Friday morning with the boys loading the bus and heading out for the games.
Game 1 Friday night had the boys shaking off the bus legs but came out ready to go. It seemed like a feeling out process to start the game even though these foes just met last Sunday at the Bell.
The first period didn’t see any goals until the Raiders finally started the scoring just over the half way mark of the first as the always trusty Kade McCormick started of the scoring. The Raiders were able to add another one before the end of the period and a very strong and stingy defense allowed Raider Nation to come out of the first up 2-0.
The second period saw the SWAT wake up and fire in 6 goals while keeping the Raiders to just 4 goals highlighted by a great passing play with Levi Anderson finding Harrison Matsuoka coming thru the middle which the SWAT shut down till Matsuoka found Brett McIntyre with a great no look back pass for him to bury to have it all tied up at 6 after two.
But the boys once again got things rolling and the defense took over once again shutting down SWAT and not allowing a goal in the third. The offense rolled for 5 goals in the third and one on transition by Matsuoka for a final score of 12-6 to start the weekend off right. The night was lead with 3 Raiders having 5 point nights McCormick (1G, 4A), McIntyre (3G, 2A) and Anderson (2G, 3A) and the new addition Carter Brand learning the O and chipping in with 4 assists. The D and Joey Janvier were strong as witnessed by shutting the SWAT out for 2 periods and also chipping in with 3 goals in transition by Matsuoka, Jesse Chong and Jett Leonard-Bedier.
Player of the Game Harrison Matsuoka and Hardest Working Player in his first game as a Raider Carter Brand.
