MAY 28

After a short turnaround in getting back home late on Saturday the Raiders had to battle a quick turnaround and face SWAT for the first time of the year and will see them a total of 4 times in a week. It was a tough battle with SWAT ready for the boys, after already knocking off the Mounties this year and two very tight games against the Mounties on Friday (lost in OT) and Saturday (lost on a goal in last minute). The game started with the teams trading goals back and forth with SWAT going up by 1 before Harrison Matsuoka tied it up on a transition goal. SWAT then scored to go up 2-1 before Brett McIntyre once again tied it at 2 with a shorthanded goal. Kade McCormick then put the Raiders up 3-2 just before the end of the first with a power play goal. The close game continued in the second with the Raiders going up 4-2 before SWAT rattled of 4 in a row to make it 6-4. The Raiders then battled back with 3 goals to finish the second period up 7-6. The boys showed their conditioning work is paying off. Playing 3 games in under 48 hours and out scoring SWAT 7-1 in the 3rd to take their 6th win of the season 14-7. The Raiders offense was lead by the back end with Brett Craig scoring 3 goals while Christian Norrie and the goal by Harrison Matsuoka had the defense scoring 5 of the goals on the day. Brett McIntyre scored 5 goals with Kade McCormick adding 3 more goals to his strong season start. Another great all around team effort to finish the weekend with 3 big wins!

Coach Hayes comments on the weekend –

‘Thought the team played well. Had a good transition weekend I thought. There is still lots to work on but we are moving forward in the right direction. Always want to improve and I think from the coaches down we can work on that.’

Coach Banister –

‘I thought we played pretty solid in all three games. We had to battle through some adversity a few times but managed to stick to our game plan and get a big 6 points’

After the always tough battle with the Mounties, we are off to Saskatoon for the weekend. Until next week lets go Raiders!!
