WEEKEND UPDATE

June 16

It was a quick trip up and back to Edmonton to play the Blues on Friday night. The young Blues team had only 15 runners. The Blues young players played hard against the seasoned Raiders. The Blues goaltender faced ~75 shots from the Raiders team and played well to keep his team close for most of the game.

Brett McIntyre opened the scoring at 16:27 of the first period. Dylan Kinnear made it 2-0 before the Blues came back with a goal to make it 2-1. That was short lived as Jacob Motuik Scores on a breakaway to make it 3-1. The Raiders and Blues each scored 1 more goal and the first period ended 4-2.

The second period saw the Raiders score 6 goals (Bullen, Kninnear, Wengreniuk, Anderson (2) and McIntyre). Brendan Wilhelm started the game and surrendered duties over to AP goalie Ryan Zaddery late in the second period. The Blues fought back with 4 goals and the second period finished 10-6.

The third period Travis Getz got on the scoreboard at 18:36 of the third period. The young Blues team pushed back for several minutes scoring 2 goals to make it 11-8. They controlled the play until Brett McInytre scored two quick goals to stop the Blues momentum. McIntyre had 3 goals in the period and lead the team with 5 goals on the night. The Raiders finish the quick trip to Edmonton with a 15-8 win.

With his 5 goal performance Brett McIntyre earned the Player of the Game. Rookie Liam Farrell was named the Hardest Worker Player.
The boys are back in Calgary this Wednesday night June 21 playing at Stu Peppard against our cross town rivals the Mountaineers. As always I am sure it will be a hard fought battle so come out and cheer the boys on.

Kudos to Deb McIntyre and Carol Matsuoka for putting on a tremendous night at Schanks North. It was a very successful night, especially for team bonding. I would also like to thank the Matsuoka family for putting on the 3rd Rookie party in the last three years at their house that night. Everyone survived and I was told had a great time.

Go Raiders.
